SA 1 Oral Exams Matter

Dear pupils,

Please remember to show your parents the letter regarding your SA1 Oral Exams next Monday (19 April 2010).

Here're some tips for your oral exams:
a) Oral Reading (Read a passage aloud)
1. Read audibly (make sure you're not too soft)
2. Read at an appropriate pace (not too fast or slow)
3. Good pronunciation (e.g. clear end-consonants)
4. Read fluently (without hesitations or inappropriate/long pauses)
5. Be expressive in your reading (make your reading more interesting)
6. Try not to skip words that you are unsure of. Make an attempt to read them (e.g. phonics)

b) Picture Description (Describe a picture given)
1. Give an introduction (e.g. This picture shows a ... OR This picture depicts a scene of ...)
2. Describe the picture in an organised manner (e.g. from left to right; top to bottom; clockwise, etc.)
3. Use the present tense forms (e.g. present continuous tense)
4. DO NOT POINT TO THE PICTURES.
5. Give good descriptions of the details with appropriate prepositions (e.g. On the left, there are two children playing on the slide. They look like they are having a fun time).
6. Use good and interesting vocabulary words.
7. Give some opinions (e.g. I feel/think that the boy/girl should/should not... because...)
8. DO NOT GIVE ONE WORD ANSWERS.
9. Aovid using "I see..." OR "I can see..."

All the best in your Oral Exams next week!
